Shortly after the news that Bachelorette star Ali Fedotowsky has split with fiance Roberto Martinez, her runner-up Chris Lambton announced that he is engaged to Peyton Wright. Peyton previously appeared on as a contestant on The Bachelor and, more recently, Bachelor Pad.
Chris and Peyton join many Bachelor alumni who have found love through their connections to the reality show franchise, though they made not have made it through the final rose ceremony.
- Holly Durst and Blake Julian got engaged shortly after appearing together on Bachelor Pad, but they originally appeared on different seasons of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette.
- Deanna Pappas and Stephen Stagliano met when Stephen's brother appeared on The Bachelorette, years after Deanna's season had filmed.
- Jesse Csincsak and Ann Leuders appeared on different seasons of the show and are married with their first child, a baby boy named Noah.
- Tara Durr and John Presser married after meeting through a Bachelor alumni reunion, and appeared on different seasons.
So, all in all, it appears that the odds are better for engagement or marriage for those individuals that don't make it to the show's final rose ceremony.
Living with a relationship watched by the world offers a considerable amount of pressure for a newly engaged couple. Plus, a relationship influenced early on by TV producers has to adjust to a real-world environment, where the dates are not comped and there are real responsibilities like career and family.
Although couples like Trista and Ryan Sutter show that it's not impossible to fall in love and stay married from a reality show, those stories are few and far between with the show's current 13% success rate.
Fans hope that Bachelorette star Ashley Hebert and J.P. Rosenbaum can beat the odds, as well as Ben Flajnik and his chosen girl, with a season that begins airing in January.
