Bachelorette recap: No Thighland in Thailand

On episode 4 of The Bachelorette, Ashley Hebert and 12 men went to Thailand on the first round of international dates; this week, everyone got the chance to go on a date with Ashley, either a group date (10 guys) or a solo date (2 men).

First off, Ashley took Constantine on a shopping date through the markets of Phuket. This was the rain location, because their sailing date got canceled due to high waves. Surprisingly, Ashley has an interest in Constantine, although they didn't seem to have much of a connection and their conversation was very matter-of-fact. She gave him the rose over dinner.

On the group date, Ashley invited the men to "give back" by painting an orphanage and setting up some outdoor equipment for the kids. During the day, the group got annoyed at Ryan Park (and confronted him about it later in the episode). Ashley was very into Ben Flajnik and watched him paint an elephant mural. That night, Ashley and the guys had an after-party at the pool and Ben F. got the date rose. Ashley was very into kissing him on the date, and she also kissed J.P. (who she calls the best kisser of them all). All in all, this group date was much more enjoyable for all than last week's comedy club roast.

The final solo date was with Ashley and Ames, who went on a boat ride (Constantine's leftovers?). Ames surprised Ashley by saying that he's already lived in Thailand, when he went to cooking school there. He's also been 70 countries around the world, and says he's ready to have someone to share his travels with. At dinner, Ashley and Ames got deep and talked about future family goals. She thinks he's ready for the next deep relationship and gives him the rose.

Before the rose ceremony, Ashley sits down with Ryan P. to see why he's so happy all the time. He almost flies off the handle (while smiling, of course) because the guys just confronted him about the same thing. It rubs some the wrong way.

When it's almost time to send two guys home, Ashley and Chris Harrison sit down and chat about her choices. Ashley is still visibly hung up on Bentley Williams and is trying to figure out who is there for the right reasons, to get to know her, and who is really ready for a relationship. She's lacking closure over Bentley because of the "dot dot dot."

Tonight, Ashley talks Chris Harrison into letting her break the rules. Instead of sending home two guys, she's only ready to send one home because she's been surprised at how well she connected with Ames (and she thought he would be going home on that date).

Ashley gives roses to:

  1. Constantine (date rose)
  2. Ben F. (date rose)
  3. Ames (date rose)
  4. Lucas the oilman
  5. Ryan the smiley face
  6. J.P. the cupcake
  7. Nick the personal trainer
  8. Mickey
  9. Blake
  10. William
  11. Ben C.

That means, the only guy to go home this week is West Lee. This is not surprising, because Ashley said earlier that she wasn't sure if he was ready to move on from his previous marriage after all he's been through. She also felt she'd have some big shoes to fill.

Next week, Ashley and 11 guys will go to another city in Thailand for a group date, a solo date, and the dreaded (awesome) two-on-one date! What did you think, Bachelorette fans?
