Bachelorette Recap: Ashley cuts two in Taiwan and bares her back for America

On episode 7 of The Bachelorette, Ashley Hebert has 6 men to take on dates in Taiwan: Lucas, Ames, Ben F., Constantine, J.P. and Ryan. Chris Harrison reveals that there will be three one-on-one dates and a three-on-one group date. There will only be one date rose, which is on the group date.

The first solo date goes to Constantine, who rides by train with the bachelorette to a village called Ping Shui. Ashley wears a mostly backless top. He and Ashley write a love wish on a lantern that they will let float into the sky later. From holding hands on the train to talking about hometown dates, these two seem to be developing a strong connection, even though it’s slower to develop than some of the others. Later that night, Constantine and Ashley kiss, watching their “love wish” rise into the night. Amazingly, the producers set off their love wishes too,  because the entire sky was filled with glowing lanterns.

The next solo date goes to Ben F. (now the only Ben left). Ashley is excited to spend the day with him, despite his Dumb and Dumber reference while getting on the motorcycle. Heading into dinner, Ben has come to the realization that he is falling in love with Ashley, but he’s not ready to tell her yet. Over dinner, he teeters on the edge of telling Ashley he’s starting to fall in love, and Ashley says she might be falling in love with Ben. Good news for Ben, because Ashley says she feels like Ben is her boyfriend and she’s falling in love with him.

Back in the guys’ hotel, J.P. is buggin’ because Ben has not come home from his date yet. When he finally rolls in, he semi-brags about his 36-hour date with Ashley, in which they did not share overnight accommodations.

Now for the group date with angry J.P., no-longer concussed Ames and southern gent Lucas. For their date, Ashley and the guys will pose in wedding pictures. Each “couple” will get to wear some sort of wedding attire, ranging from a traditional tux and white gown to Taiwainese attire. For their dinner, Ashley has some awkward exchanges with the guys, who aren’t into the group date experience. All except for Ames, who is still very jovial. Ashley gives the rose to the poutiest guy there, J.P., to reassure him that she cannot wait to meet his family.

For her final date, Ashley goes on a date with Ryan P., who was the recipient of her first impression rose. In a strange twist of fate, this is Ryan’s first solo date with Ashley, and he’s the only guy left who hasn’t had an entire date with her alone. In a huge downer moment, Ryan and Ashley throw wooden orange slices to make their wishes come true, but it doesn’t work. Ehh.

Nothing can spoil Ryan’s optimism though, because he still thinks (hopes?) he is getting a hometown date. Ashley is wearing a bright blue hospital gown (ties shut in the back), but Ryan doesn’t seem to mind. He just heads right into a long conversation about environmentalism. Enough is enough, because Ashley hates the environment and decides she has no interest in Ryan at all. She breaks the rules and sends him home on this date, because she doesn’t want to put him through the rose ceremony.

In a protest tonight, Ashley’s back refuses to be covered and she wears another odd sarong/toga dress. She sits down with dad-figure Chris Harrison and talks over her breakup with Ryan. In another daring, break-the-rules moves, Ashley cancels the cocktail party and heads straight into the rose ceremony where she will have to crush one more man’s soul.

Roses go to:

  • J.P. (date rose)
  • Constantine
  • Ben
  • Ames

Ashley sends home Lucas, who will join Ryan on a plane back to the States without a chance at love.
