Bachelorette party car crash: Weekend bachelorette party kick-off ends in crash

A tragic bachelorette party car crash happened Friday night and killed the bride-to-be while she was on her way to the Lake of the Ozarks where friends would be celebrating with her for the weekend. KDVR reports June 24 that 26-year-old Collette M. Moreno was pronounced dead at University Hospital in Columbia from her injuries.

Collette wasn't driving the car she was in; she was the passenger. Ashley M. Theobald was driving the car and said she was trying to pass a semi-truck whose exhaust flames were making Collette have an asthma reaction. Ashley's car collided with an oncoming vehicle while she was trying to pass the truck. Collette was wearing a seat belt, according to the report. Theobald was wearing her seat belt, too, but only suffered minor injuries and was treated at University Hospital.

The bachelorette party was beginning in the afternoon because the car crash was reported at 2:52 p.m. at Missouri Highway 5 and Prairie Valley Road in Morgan County. Ashley, a 26-year-old from Kansas City, was behind the wheel of a 2013 Chevy Malibu heading southbound. Missouri Highway Patrol report that Melvin E. Garber, 25, of Versailles, Mo. was just coming up over the hill in his 1999 Dodge Ram pickup truck when they were driving towards each other. When they met, they swerved to avoid colliding into one another. Unfortunately, the truck slammed into the passenger's side of the Malibu. The Malibu then veered off to the left side of the road and crashed; the Dodge went the opposite direction and also crashed. Garber suffered no injuries.

The highway patrol said Ashley Theobald won't face any charges.

Eight minutes before the deadly incident, Collette took a selfie of she and Ashley. She was gleaming while on her way to the bachelorette party only to end up in a car crash minutes later.

Ashley said this about passing the truck:

"She had bad asthma and there was a truck in front of us that was releasing a lot of exhaust. She started coughing."

The women were on a two-lane road.

Ashley adds:

"We both thought it was clear and there was a hill that neither one of us saw. I tried to go around and there was a truck coming and I swerved and he swerved with me."

Collette Moreno's fiance, Jesse Acrobasso, is taking it the hardest. She also has a 5-year-old son, Braden. Acrobasso is having a difficult time in finding the words to tell his son that mommy isn't coming home. He doesn't understand everything quite yet and it'll take time, Acrobasso said.

Collette worked as an office assistant in a doctor's office.

A donation has been set up for funeral expenses that include travel for family at There's also donations for Braden's future expenses that include food, clothes, eduction, etc. It meant everything for Collette to make sure her son would be covered for necessities and a nice life.

The bachelorette party car crash story is one of the saddest headlines this week. Thoughts from many are with Collette Moreno's fiance, son, family, co-workers, and friends.
