A 26-year-old bride-to-be died in a car crash on her way to her own bachelorette party. Collette Moreno, a mother to a five-year-old boy, was due to be married at the end of next month. Sadly, her fiancé and family are now planning a funeral.
Moreno was in a car last Friday driven by her best friend Ashley Theobald. The pair left Kansas City and were headed to Lake Ozark, Missouri, where they had planned a bachelorette getaway. Stuck behind a tractor trailer, Theobald swerved out to attempt to pass when their car rammed with an oncoming vehicle.
The Daily Mail carried multiple photos of Ashley, Collette and her fiancé, Jesse Arcobasso, as well as this picture – a selfie snapped by Collete and posted to Facebook just moments before the crash.
Reports the Daily Mail:
Moreno's fiancé “sobbed as he spoke about his loss just four weeks ahead of their wedding date, and revealed her five-year-old son can't yet comprehend where his mommy is.”
Jesse said that Collette’s boy, Braden, “doesn't quite understand everything just yet. I know it's going to take time.”
Theobald said the reason she tried to pass the truck was that it was throwing out fumes that made Moreno, who suffers from asthma, start to wheeze and cough.
“We both thought it was clear and there was a hill that neither one of us saw,” Theobald said as she choked back tears. “I tried to go around and there was a truck coming and I swerved and he swerved with me.”
Driving the other vehicle was 25-year-old Melvin E. Garber. His Dodge Ram swerved at the same time Theobald’s Chevy Malibu swerved, and Garber ended up smashing into the passenger side of the car, where Moreno was sitting. Theobald and Garber were okay, and Moreno was conscious but not responding.
“I was talking to her. She couldn’t talk back but she was nodding at me,” Theobald admitted. “I didn't know it was as bad as it was because she wasn't physically super beaten-up.” Three hours later, Moreno was pronounced dead.
A fundraising site on YouCaring.com has been set up to assist the family, Braden and to help fly in family members for the funeral.
