In a recent interview with Austin360.com, Bachelorette contestant and country singer Wes Hayden reveals some new information about his public degradation by the ABC show.
At first, Wes said he didn't trust how the network would edit him on the Men Tell All show, airing tonight (July 20).
"I had talks with them and I told them that I wasn’t going to come on the show," he says. "And then when I saw the very last episode [I was on], I realized that I had to go back to defend myself. I called them and … their words to me — they were kind of abrasive — 'Oh, so now you want to come on the show?' I said, 'I’ve got to defend myself.' Their exact words to me were 'You can’t come on the show and say the things you have been saying on all these other interviews,' — basically the truth. And I said, 'You mean I can’t come on the show and defend myself?'"
In the end, the network said they'd call Wes back, and they ultimately decided it was not in their best interest to have him come on the show. Though that didn't mean wouldn't be the hot topic of conversation at the Men Tell All taping. Host Chris Harrison asked Jillian Harris and the other guys of the house plenty of questions about Wes, furthering the portrayal of Wes as the most controversial character in Bachelor history.
Overall, Wes says his edit on the show has affected his career negatively. "I’ve got people that send me hate mail daily. I’ve had four, five gigs canceled on me for like $20,000," he says. He's hopeful that better days are to come, and says he'll continue to tell his side of the story. He adds that his music promoter is prone to the hate mail and calls, too. "She's actually had a death threat," he says.
"The more days that pass and the more people I get to talk to and share what really happened and the person that I really am, it seems like my faith is getting strong," Wes says. "There is a Bible verse that says 'all things work together for the good for those who love God and are called according to his purpose.' I just have to believe that God has a plan for me and he’s not going to let this set me back.
"I will turn this thing around. The perception of me is out there, so now it’s up to me to change that perception, one person at a time."

Comments
Hopefully all the negative in this seasons will not hurt the shows overall. I think most of us felt Wes was there only to promote his music. Personally I wouldn't buy anything with his name on it.
I stopped watching that show years ago...same thing year after year.
Wes had the opportunity to defend himself in this interview, but he STILL hasn't said anything that defends his side. If he has been unfairly edited by ABC, then I feel bad for him. But it's hard to defend him when the slimebag comments he made came straight from his mouth. However, despite everything, I think it's totally wrong for people to make death threats. Leave the guy alone already. It's only a reality show!
the show hired him for controversy and ratings.
i have inside information. wes got paid to act like that on the show.
oKAY, Come on, see through the junk... this guy obviously saw this as a publicity opportunity and took it he must have figured "all publicity is good publicity" well. I think he had what was coming to him, you have to know, you dont say things like that and hope they edit it out.. in terms of it ruining his career he had it coming. He said to the guys "I will be home having lots of sex" and he said "First guy to make it to final 4 with a girlfriend" ... obviously now that he realizes that is it bad for his career is he back tracking. and I dont believe he got paid to act like that, if it was offered any smart person would turn it down, knowing that it would hurt them in the long run... if he was paid and he took the offer... he is an idiot and had it coming.. either way the cards are stacked against him, he is a moron. I agree, death threats are not the way to go... he will suffer the natural consequence of failing shows and cds.

BUT YOU KEEP READING ABOUT IT?
:-)
Wes chose to state in the limo that he had a girlfriend and ended up in the top 4. That was his words. He is not any C&W singer I would buy a record from.
Wes..Poor you! You deserve EVERY bit of what you got!..It was so obvious and you said it many times, You were there for your career..Ha..and it turned on you. How wonderful. People like you are scum of the earth. You used ABC and you expect them to help you out? Tough stuff..You used Jillian and you used the guys...You lied BOLD face on national TV..and you are just so greedy..and For God sakes you certainly can not sing. Maybe you should go to Chihuahua Mexico and stay there..Who gives a crap that you were number one there? They probably did not even understand what you were singing..What a Joke.
When you were in that Limo..ABC may have edited..but you gloated..You were the first Bachelor to get to final four with a girlfriend..No editing there..and That you could not wait to get home for SEX...you are such trash..and If there were a place where you were going to perform. I would hope no one would come to see you. Shame on you..You USE you LOSE!! Put that in your guitar and strum it!
Sorry y'all. I'd lean toward Wes' side before I would the Bachelorette producers. I've been listening to a lengthy radio inteveriew with him that is way more in depth...His side of the story sounds pretty accurate to how a TV show works and is convincing considering it's a "show's word vs. Wes's". C'mon. It's a crap ass show that is fully edited. Are you going to believe a "reality" show like this over Wes? No doubt he thought this may help his career to a degree, but the producers of Bachelorette have made sure he'll see very little benefit personally. If anything, they have successfully assassinated his character... IMHO at least.
