The Bachelorette 2014 season premiere aired on ABC Monday night (May 19), and we have a full recap of the 90-minute episode here now.
Bachelorette 2014 Premiere: Who Got Sent Home at the First Season 10 Rose Ceremony?
As the show opened, we watched Andi, 27, transition from her law firm in Atlanta to The Bachelorette mansion in Los Angeles. "I never in a million years thought this would happen to me. Ever. It's my time to fall in love. I'm ready to meet the man of my dreams."
After some endearing and awkward driveway introductions, it was time for everyone to really get to know each other. The words "wow" and "stunning" were being thrown around as the men sat waiting for Andi to join the cocktail party after their first impressions out front; in fairness, Andi did look pretty amazing in her body-skimming, jewel-embellished gown.
Soon, the guys began to steal Bachelorette Andi away for some alone time. Marquel, a 26-year-old salesman from Las Vegas, took her aside for cookie tasting. "This cookie is very important," he said, holding up a black-and-white cookie. He was coyly alluding to the fact that he was black and Andi was white and together they could...be a bi-racial cookie? We're not exactly sure, but it was still pretty cute; Andi thought so, too.
Then, Andi and Eric Hill sat down, and he began telling her about his adventures around the world. This was somewhat difficult to watch, knowing he was just weeks from his death in a paragliding accident as he sat speaking with enthusiasm about his plans for the future. Rest in peace, Eric.
Later, host Chris Harrison brought out the first impression rose. "There was something sincere and modest about him. He just stood out to me," Andi said of the ultimate recipient, Nick V., even though he wasn't her usual "type."
Bachelorette Season 10 Premiere Recap: Week 1 Rose Ceremony (May 19)
Before the first Bachelorette 2014 rose ceremony, there was an unexpected visitor to the mansion. (Not all that unexpected to the crew, judging by the contrived and poorly-acted confusion created by his arrival.)
"I need to talk to Andi," former Bachelorette and Bachelor Pad contestant Chris Bukowski told producers, clutching a dozen roses. Producers fake–scrambled to get feedback from Andi, but since she didn't even seem to know who he was, she asked Chris Harrison to tell him to leave. Though he protested, "I've been out here seven days. I'm not leaving. I have to talk to her, [blah blah blah]," he ultimately he ended up leaving. The whole thing was rather pointless and sort of cringe-worthy.
Finally, during the season's first rose ceremony, Bachelorette Andi gave the first three roses to JJ, Eric, and Marquel. She gave her final three roses to Patrick, Cody, and Nick S., leaving six guys out in the cold. So long, Emil ("Like anal with an 'm'" - we're pretty sure that didn't help him), Mike, Rudie, Jason, Josh B. and Steven.
