'Bachelor Pad' canceled: ABC takes 'Bachelor Pad' off 2013 summer schedule

"Bachelor Pad" canceled? It certainly looks that way as ABC has taken "Bachelor Pad" off its summer 2013 schedule. According to a report from Tuesday (March 19), a dip in ratings could be to blame for ABC changing course.

"Dexter" Series Finale Scheduled

The 2012 season finale of the show reported a 35 percent drop in viewers from the previous summer finale, showing that viewers may have grown tired of the format. For those viewers that hadn't tuned in before, the premise was to have former contestants from "The Bachelor" and "The Bachelorette" compete for a cash prize.

While the dating shows continue to bring in a lot of viewers, the summer reality competition show may have run its course. With many contestants returning to the show more than once, it's also possible that producers had run out of interesting people to put on the show. Rather than continue what appeared to be a cheap knock off from the match-making show, ABC seems to have decided to shelve it for now.

Even though it appears "Bachelor Pad" has been canceled, that doesn't mean that ABC won't try to revive it at some point. The show was inexpensive to produce and was still drawing a fair amount of viewers, so maybe a re-branding and re-formatting of the show could take place before the 2014 summer season.
