Bachelor 2014 Week 5 Recap: Did Juan Pablo and Clare Have Sex?
This week, we saw Clare and Juan Pablo steal as much one-on-one time as they could during the group date in Vietnam, much to the dismay of the other girls. "It's basically the eight of us, and a one-on-one date," one of the girls noted, the others agreeing. (It was Renee and Nikki who scored the actual one-on-one dates in Vietnam. Both got roses at the end of their dates. Clare got the group date rose.)
After the tension-filled group date, Clare told the other girls she was tired and going to bed. Really, she went over to Juan Pablo's hotel suite. She knew the way, after all; JP whisked her off to his place for a private swim and make-out session in his plunge pool while the group date cocktail party was still underway. (He then brought Sharleen and Andi to the beach to make out at various points in the evening. The ick factor is strong this season.)
So, Clare showed up and invited Bachelor Juan Pablo for a late night dip in the ocean; he grabbed a bathing suit and soon they were splashing in the warm, tropical waves; wrapped in each others arms, kissing and laughing, drunk on moonlight. He seemed to be enjoying himself just as much as she was, whatever they were doing.
By all appearances and the amount of innuendo presented, it would seem Juan Pablo and Clare had sex (possibly) during their secret interlude in Vietnam. Clare all but confirmed they shared an intimate moment of some sort together when she smiled slyly and gave the camera a certain knowing look as she explained, "We just went for it, and I don't regret it. Pure bliss. In every way."
During the cocktail party before this week's Bachelor 2014 Week 5 rose ceremony in Vietnam (Feb. 3), Juan Pablo pulled Clare aside and confessed he had misgivings about what had happened between them. Beforehand, he told the camera, "I think I made a mistake the other night, going too far with Clare."
He claimed their secret alone time wasn't fair to the other girls, and then laid a guilt trip on Clare about his young daughter Camila seeing the footage. "It was good, but at the same time it was a little weird for me," JP explained to her. "What happened happened. I am trying to be as fair as possible."
Clare responded, near tears, "It's not about fair. It's about how you feel, and about your heart."
Later, Clare cried as she sat down for her solo interview. "When we were in the ocean, it was a mutual feeling. There was no miscommunication. There was no misunderstanding. He was on-board with everything. It's confusing, and I don't know where we go from here," Clare said to the camera. "If he didn't think it was right, he shouldn't have done it. I would've respected it."
It wasn't even clear exactly what JP was trying to get across to the pretty thirty-something, except perhaps a "we can't let anything like that happen again" sort of message?
Meanwhile, the other girls noticed Clare's tears, though Clare said it was just bad allergies.
"It's super awkward," one of the girls remarked. "Something bad is happening."
We don't blame Clare for covering up. It isn't exactly like the other girls would've responded well had she confessed, "I had sex with Juan Pablo in the ocean during a stolen date, and now he's acting all weird about it."
At the rose ceremony, Kelly Travis, Alli Restko and Danielle Ronco were sent home.
