Baby tied to a train photo: Here comes the bride, her baby to her gown is tied

A Tennessee woman who tied her baby to the train of her wedding gown so that the baby could be part of the wedding -- and then made the mistake of posting a photo of said baby tied to the wedding gown on Facebook -- has come under fire from just about everyone for her lack of decorum and good sense. The photo, of course, went viral. But what makes the very strange wedding incident even more outrageous, the bride, one Shona Carter-Brooks, has gone on to defend her actions.

The Washington Times reported June 3 that Shona Carter-Brooks of Jackson, Tenn., is defending tying her newborn to the train of her wedding gown as she walked down the aisle at Elam Baptist Church in Ripley, Tenn. In fact, she took to Facebook to do so.

“FB family & friends we are outstanding! See we not weary in well doing, for in due season this too shall pass!” she wrote Friday of the criticism she was receiving. “We rejoicing for we’re too driven to be drowned, victorious to be defeated, and content for God is able! We love you all for your support, love, and encouraging words."

She also posted: "The answer is we do what we want, when we want long as Jesus on our side everything worked out fine and gone continue to be fine,” apparently invoking the time-honored Jesus-is-my-copilot clause. “Most important while y’all got ya feelings in us we had our hearts in Christ which covers all!! So keep ya mouths running for it was just that.”

It might have been "just that," but quite a few on the Internet are condemning the bride and her new husband for being insensitive and somewhat irresponsible.

"She dumb as hell! Her and her husband," wrote one commenter, according to the New York Daily News. "That poor child born to 2 supreme idiots."

The Daily News reported that there does not seem to be a video of the wedding, just the photo of the baby attached to the wedding dress train as the bride strolls down the church aisle. And there have been no reports of injury or harm coming to the child.

But a photo of a baby tied to a wedding dress notwithstanding, Shona Carter-Brooks' offbeat wedding gown accessory controversy wasn't the only strange wedding story this week.

A 58-year-old New York man was stabbed repeatedly in the leg at a wedding reception after an argument over who was going to take home the leftovers and some cans of Sterno, the compact heating agent. The New York Post reported that Juan Martinez later died of his wounds. Martinez' attacker? His 57-year-old cousin - the groom.
