Founded in 1988 by Akinori and Fumiyo Isobe, BTSSB specializes in designs based around the popular style of Lolita, a fashion subculture originating in Japan that is based on Victorian-era clothing. Lolita-fashion has been featured in popular animé, manga, and is a staple in Japanese pop culture, which has helped to expand its' reach to other parts of the world, including the United States. As of 2014, Baby, The Stars Shine Bright, has twenty-eight shops in Japan, with flagship shops in Paris and San Francisco.
BTSSB plans to light up Anime Midwest with not only some of their finest dresses on display in the convention's exhibit hall, but also with a special tea party, hosted by one of the company's talented designers. The individual that will host the tea party will be announced in a future announcement on the Anime Midwest website.
Anime Midwest is set to take place July 4-6, 2014 at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare and Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Illinois. An estimated 10,000 people are set to attend the three-day weekend dedicated to Japanese animé and pop culture.
