A North Minneapolis infant was shot in the neck on the evening of Sept. 5, 2013, and is currently in critical condition, according to KSTP.
Minneapolis police told media that the 2-month-old child was on its father’s lap when a gunshot was heard and the father ducked as a reaction.
The baby was hit in the neck by a stray bullet.
According to CBS Minnesota, the infant was shot at around 8:50 p.m. on Thursday near the 2400 Block of Emerson Ave. N.
The child was still breathing when rushed to Hennepin County Medical Center and is in critical condition.
Minneapolis City Council Member Don Samuels told CBS, “This is nonsensical, and as a community we’re going to have to figure out a way to respond to this appropriately.”
Samuels said to KSTP the incident was “depressing, awful, tragic, traumatic and totally unacceptable…”
Law enforcement is now canvassing the area.
Minneapolis police are urging anyone with information regarding the shooting to call 612-673-5701.
