A woman claimed that while she was taking her baby for a nice stroll nice in their Georgia town neighborhood it turned into a tragic nightmare. According to CNN on Friday, March 22 a baby was killed and the mother was shot during an apparent robbery attempt.
Sherry West reported to police officials that two boys attempted to rob her while she was on a walk with her son. Then when she stated she didn't have any money they fatally shot her baby boy and wounded her.
"He said, 'I'm gonna kill you if you don't give me your money,' and I said, 'I swear, I don't have any,'" Sherry West told CNN affiliate WAWS. "I put my arms over my baby and he shoves me and he shot my baby right in the head."
The mother was wounded in her leg and unfortunately the 13 month old baby boy died from his gun shot wound.
West told the police that one of the boys appeared to be between 13 and 15 years old, while the younger one could have been 10 years old. Police responding to the 911 call discovered that the baby was killed and his mother suffered from a leg wound.
Police officials are now attempting to locate the boys. Currently they are checking attendance records for students who missed school on Friday. Reportedly there are no witnesses who have came forward about this horrific shooting.
"But why my little one?" asked Louis Santiago, the father, in an interview with WAWS. "You know, you should have just taken the pocketbook and go."
The police are now offering a $10,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest of the two killers.
"This is obviously just a terrible day in the city of Brunswick," Mayor Bryan Thompson told reporters on Thursday, "and made even more terrible by the senseless killing of a young child. And it appears perpetrated by children themselves."
