According to the Smithsonian's National Zoo in Washington where the cub was born in captivity, giant panda Mei Xiang's offspring debuted to a bevy of humans who started to queue for the chance starting at 6 in the morning on Sunday. Admitted a few at a time, the onlookers were admitted for 10 or 15 minutes inside the giant panda house to witness this big baby.

This was a big deal for all those who love pandas because it has been a long time since the Washington, DC-based zoo had enjoyed the successful birth of this sort. Born Aug. 23, 2013 and hitting the scales at 4.8 ounces, Bao Bao currently weighs about 20 pounds and is considered to be extremely healthy.

Although giant pandas hail from a much different climate than what is found in our nation's capital, their natural natural of leafy bamboo groves of central China are losing these cuddly creatures. In fact, only 1,600 remain in their original surroundings while 300 live and thrive in various zoos around the globe.

And so, as Baby panda Bao Bao takes her first formal bow at the Smithsonian's National Zoo, her fans meet and greet her in Washington, D.C.
