Katherine “Baby Kate” Phillips vanished over two years ago in Michigan, and on Oct. 4, 2013, her father, Sean Michael Phillips, was charged with her murder after new evidence was uncovered in the case, according to MLive.
Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette announced, “New evidence has been discovered which support a murder charge in this case.”
According MLive, he “declined” to elaborate further on this new evidence.
The arrest warrant for Phillips claims he murdered his 4 ½ month old baby girl the day she vanished, on June 29, 2011.
On that day, Baby Kate’s mother, Ariel Courtland, called police saying Phillips drove off with the baby in tow. He had taken a DNA test to determine Baby Kate's paternity and the three were headed to obtain DNA testing for the child.
Courtland claimed during the 911 call that Phillips did not want Baby Kate to be tested, as he did not want to pay child support for another child. The couple also has a daughter who was 3 ½-year-old at the time.

Phillips was located at his mother's home about 3 hours after Courtland called police and, at the time authorities announced he had been uncooperative.
The Christian Science Monitor reports that investigators have said seeds and other such material that have been found on the shoes Phillips was wearing when Baby Kate went missing may help authorities locate her.
The report indicates that Courtland said the murder charge against Phillips was a “slap in the face” because she was not informed it was taking place prior to the news conference announcing the development. In addition, she still believes Baby Kate may be alive.
