Native Southern Nevadans might not think so, but Las Vegas winters are among the mildest in the country, so even outdoor evening events such as the monthly First Friday art walk remain an attractive option as the temperatures cool to hot cocoa-perfect weather. This month's artistic offerings, taking over the Arts District from 6 to 10 p.m. on Dec. 4, give plenty of reasons for valley residents to button up that coat and stroll the streets of downtown Vegas.

Opening with a preview on Thursday, Dec. 3, Trifecta Gallery (inside the Arts Factory, 107 E. Charleston Blvd.) is hosting its annual Minumental Invitational, a group show featuring tiny-sized works from dozens of artists, including Elizabeth Blau, JW Caldwell, Shan Michael Evans, Jennifer Henry, Casey Weldon and many more. The show runs through Dec. 24.

On the other side of the building, the Contemporary Arts Center opens "Your Future Starts Here," which showcases the lives, work and experiences of the CAC's original core members and artists, including Mary Warner, Jerry Misko, Marty Walsh, Ginger Bruner, Fred Sigman and many others. The show debuts on Thursday night and runs through Jan. 28, 2010.

Upstairs in the Arts Factory at Damned Ink Studios, surrealist Mark T. Zeilman returns with a new exhibit of colored pencils on panel, called – what else – "Panel." The show runs through December at Damned Ink and opens with a preview reception Thursday. Limited edition mini-posters will be available only at the show, so we recommend getting there early.

Also inside the Arts Factory is the Ortego Gallery, which hosts a new exhibit of original art from the latest comic book collection by local artist Vezun, A.M. Vol. 3. Vezun will be on hand during First Friday to sign books and do sketches on request. His previous books will also be available for sale. The exhibit runs through the end of December.

Across the street at Place Gallery (1054 S. Main St.), S.C. Jones unveils his latest exhibit, "The Lyrical Image." Each painting is influenced by Jones' favorite music, including songs such as "Satellite of Love," "Downtown Train," and "Sympathy for the Devil."

Further south on Main Street, Todd VonBastiaans will raise the Rolladen door on his gallery, Atomic Todd (1217 S. Main St.), at exactly 6:15 p.m. Friday, revealing "No Vacancy."

After the galleries begin shuttering their doors, head over to the Aruba Hotel (1215 Las Vegas Blvd. S.) for the Las Vegas N.O.I.S.E. Project, which features two rooms of music, art and atmosphere, including performances from The High Rollerz and Rooftop Ridicule, body painting, breakdancing and electronica DJs. It's all free and runs well into Saturday morning for those of you 21 and over.
