The Columbus Zoo welcomed a new addition to the gorilla house on Wednesday, September 29. At approximately 2:00pm, Cassie, born at the Columbus Zoo, gave birth to her first baby. This is the third for father Annaka, who was born at the Philadelphia Zoo. The new baby gorilla is the thirtieth to be born at the Columbus Zoo and will be the seventeenth gorilla housed there currently.
This new gorilla, whose sex is still unknown, is the fifth great-grandchild to Colo, the first gorilla born in captivity in the entire world, the oldest gorilla in captivity, and the longest resident of the Columbus Zoo. Colo will celebrate her 54th birthday this December.
Currently, the new baby is being protected and cared for by her parents and troop-mates and watched over by members of the Columbus Zoo staff. This staff is not only dedicated, but recognized leaders in gorilla welfare. In the past year, the Columbus Zoo has been selected to care for a juvenile gorilla badly injured at her former home and a deaf adult gorilla because of the expertise of the staff.
The new gorilla is not available for public viewing at this time. For more news about the new baby gorilla and its public debut, please click subscribe above.

Cool!
It hurts to see these animals behind wire fences adn in cages. No zoos, please. Large animal safari prks if we must.
Your anti-zoo screeds have become quite tiresome, especially as you seem to take no notice of the amazing good that is performed by the best of our zoos, the Columbus Zoo very much included.
Very cool!
