The baby found in a teen girl's bag, who was under suspicion for shoplifting at a NYC lingerie store, may be slammed for murder. Authorities believe the baby boy found in the teen girl's bag weighed over 8 pounds and was near full term, according to the Daily News on Oct. 18.
Investigators now suspect the baby was born alive, and may have been asphyxiated. Tiona Rodriguez, 17, mother of a 2-year-old son, initially told police she was six months pregnant and suffered a miscarriage on Wednesday.
Security guards at the Herald Square Victoria's Sectret store made the grisly discovery around 1 p.m. Thursday. They confronted Rodriguez and her 17-year-old friend Francis Estevez, about possible shoplifting and smelled something strange.
As guards searched Rodriguez’s bags for stolen goods, they found a black plastic bag. Inside that bag was the dead baby, police said. The plastic bag was inside a canvas bag.
Friends, family and neighbors alike, all expressed shock, claiming the young girl wouldn't be capable of such an act.
The examination into the death of the unborn baby could take several weeks as police continue to look into the events leading up to the gruesome discovery.
