A baby found in a bag at a Victoria's Secret is dead. On Oct. 18, Yahoo! reported that the body of a newborn baby was found inside of a shopping bag at the store in New York. Authorities believe the baby was born alive but later died of asphyxiation.
"Police believe 17-year-old Tiana Rodriguez gave birth to the baby at a friend's house and that the infant was later asphyxiated. The city medical examiner's office said an autopsy was inconclusive, and more tests were needed. Neighbors have told police that they didn't even know that Rodriguez was pregnant. She is currently in the hospital.
The baby found in bag story shot up very high in trends this weekend but sadly this story doesn't have a happy ending. Rodriguez and her friend were arrested at the Victoria's Secret store in Midtown Manhattan on "petit larceny charges." A security guard at the store believed the girls had been shoplifting -- and that's when Rodriguez confessed.
"Rodriguez told detectives she was carrying the remains because she had delivered a day earlier and didn't know what to do," Yahoo! reports. It is very possible that Rodriguez could face more serious charges in this case. An investigation is ongoing and the medical examiner is working to find an exact cause of death.
The baby found in the bag didn't have much of a fighting chance because Rodriguez decided to forgo an immediate hospital visit after giving birth. So sad all around.
