Baby Elaina: The missing baby Elaina mystery has taken a grim turn this week with the finding and recovery of human remains in the garage of the same house that the young child previously lived before vanishing in summer 2012, UPI reports this Friday, Sept. 6. The coroner of Lucas County confirmed just yesterday that the human remains were found in an old cardboard box packed away in the garage, and that the body may be connected to the case of toddler Elaina Steinfurth.
Young baby Elaina vanished without a trace last year, but her sad case is now being revisited as an autopsy of the human remains is set to take place today. The cardboard box was only recently recovered, having been seemingly hidden in the garage of Steven King’s residence, who was the ex-boyfriend of Elaina’s own mother, Angela Steinfurth. Baby Elaina is known to have stayed there for a time when living with her mother. Although the house had been searched by both federal officers and Toledo Police in the past, this week’s discovery was a breakthrough find.
Perhaps equally shocking is that the home that housed the human remains in Toledo was only yards away from the site where dozens of vigils and prayers have been made in the hope of baby Elaine’s recovery and return in recent months, or at least new clues linked to her going missing.
Although most details surrounding the body and a possible connection to Elaina are unknown at this time, the toddler’s mother Angela, along with ex-boyfriend Stephen King, are now facing obstruction of justice charges in the matter of the disappearance of the child.
Baby Elaina’s father, T.J. Steinfurth, is said to be shocked and irate at the discovery of the human remains, and that it’s “so hard to stay optimistic” with this latest update.
Officials have not confirmed whether the human remains are directly related to the missing baby Elaina case, but it is a “very definite possibility,” one officer on the grim case concluded. It is believed that the autopsy will shed light on this tragic story.
