Baby Elaina death: Mother injured Elaina and boyfriend kills her, both get life

Two life sentences were handed down yesterday for the death of Baby Elaina. Baby Elaina’s mother and the mother’s boyfriend both received life-sentences for their parts in killing the 18-month-old toddler, according to UPI.com on Dec. 3, 2013.

Baby Elaina was reported missing by her mother on June 2. A massive search at that time for the toddler turned up nothing. It wasn’t until early September that the remains of the baby were found in Steven King II’s home, the mother’s boyfriend. Angela Steinforth, 25, Baby Elaina’s mother, had shared that home with the 24-year-old King at one time.

Stienforth entered an Alford plea, which means she acknowledges that there is enough evidence to convict her of aggravated murder and obstruction of justice. She must serve 18 years of her life sentence.

King pleaded guilty to aggravated murder, abuse of a corpse and other crimes. He will not be eligible for parole until he has served 24 years behind bars.

Prosecutors in the case say that Steinfurth injured Elaina because the baby’s crying frustrated her. King killed the little girl because Steinfurth was afraid that her other daughter would be taken away from her if anyone found out about the injuries.

Somehow 18 and 24 years seems a bit on the lenient side for this horrendous killing of Baby Elaina. While both got life sentences, they could be set free after the mother does 18 years and the boyfriend can possibly get parole after a 24 year stay in prison.
