A baby has possibly been cured of HIV following standard treatment she has received since her birth.
Infants born HIV positive are given treatment that is considered standard care for the rest of their lives in hopes of helping them avoid developing AIDS. However, there have not been documented cases of children being cured until now.
Physicians treating this child have claimed the child was not HIV positive following recent tests. It has been reported that the child’s mother stopped treatment recently, and then allowed tests to be done to see how the child was responding.
Many may be shocked to learn what has been the standard treatment for infants born HIV positive may change. Children born HIV positive may be able to escape having treatment for their remaining years in an attempt to avoid becoming AIDS patients.
While researchers are cautioning everyone that this is just one case, those who are HIV positive or who have children who are HIV positive are holding out for more. The community will embrace any good news that is given.
