A baby girl born on a frigid Toronto street was covered up as dead, but she surprised everyone by reviving a few hours later. According to a Feb. 19 report by USA Today, the baby’s mother was walking to the hospital to deliver her baby when the baby decided to be born on the sidewalk in the zero temperatures.
Hospital staff made efforts at resuscitation, but the baby was pronounced dead. The two police officers sitting with the baby waiting on the coroner received quite a surprise around two hours later when one of them saw something move under the sheet! Hospital staff was alerted, and the little baby girl was determined to be alive. She and her mother are both listed in stable condition after their ordeal.
USA Today explains that experts have explained that sometimes frigid temperatures can slow the heart while protecting the brain function. The hospital is examining their procedures, but you can bet that the staff will wait a little longer next time before pronouncing anyone as dead.
