A baby gorilla was born on Valentine's Day at the Oklahoma City Zoo. According to a report by KWTV Channel 9 News in Oklahoma City dated Feb. 15, both the baby gorilla and the mother, Kelele, are doing well.
The baby gorilla's father was Bom Bom. He passed away June 25, 2012 from heart disease. He was only 36 years. Bom Bom was one of the Oklahoma City's most beloved gorillas. He had lived in the Oklahoma City Zoo for about 10 years.
The baby gorilla's sex is unknown at this time. According the the Oklahoma City Zoo, the baby is doing very well. The baby gorilla is nursing and looks strong. This is the first baby for Kelele. She appears to be doing well with her new baby.
The baby gorilla joins a half-brother, George, at the Oklahoma City Zoo. George is the son of Bom Bom and is about 9 years old. George's mother, Kathy, still lives at the Oklahoma City Zoo.
Visitors to the Oklahoma City Zoo may be able to see the baby. That will be determined by Kelele, who is free to take her new baby into the viewing area.
