Baby born after mom killed: Tragedy hits Brooklyn area

Tragedy hit Brooklyn when a baby was born after her mom was killed in a hit-and-run accident midnight, Chicago Tribune reports March 3. On Sunday, police launched a "full-on search" for the male driver and passenger seen in the BMW sedan which hit a taxi cab that the young couple were riding in. They were headed to the hospital for the birth of their child.

After the BMW hit the taxi cab, the driver and passenger fled the scene on foot -- leaving their car behind.

Nathan and Raizi Gluber were pronounced dead upon arrival at separate hospitals. Their baby son was born prematurely via C-section. Bellevue Hospital has declined to comment on the condition of the child.

The death of the Orothodox Jewish couple has taken a major toll on their religious community in the Williamsburg district of Brooklyn. A close friend, Isaac Abraham, said there's no way anyone could have prepared for something so horrible. The community is shocked and shaken by the fatal tragedy.

The taxi driver is reportedly in stable condition.

The suspects of the hit-and-run clearly panicked and thought by fleeing the scene they would get away with it. Leaving their vehicle behind will give law enforcement good clues in capturing them.
