Baby and Toddler product of the week: Exergen TemporalScanner Thermometer

The product of the week is a favorite feature of the National Baby and Toddler Examiner column. Based on a variable three-part test, the product of the week is a baby or toddler product fit to impress parents and grandparents.

This week's trifecta is based on the product's outstanding: 1) design; 2) ease of use; and 3) accuracy.

TemporalScanner Thermometer by Exergen

Taking your child's temperature has never been so easy.  Forget about sticking an uncomfortable tool in a place that will make your baby scream in horror.  This temporal scanning thermometer does the job exactly the way mom's wish for: quickly, gently and without causing any distress to their child.

The trifecta:

1. Design - in addition to the award-winning patented software that "determines temperature by accurately measuring the balance between the tissues warming from arterial blood and tissues cooling (warming) caused by heat loss (gain) to the environment," this device fits comfortably in one hand and requires the push of only one button and a few seconds of time to use.  It does not require insertion in any part of the body - it simply scans across the skin of the forehead.  It is also small enough to easily fit into a diaper bag or purse.

2. Ease of use - requiring only the push of a button while gently sweeping the sensor along the forehead for a few seconds, moms and dads can take their baby's temperature without so much as waking him up from his slumber.  It requires only one hand so mom can hold baby in one arm and take his temperature with the other.  There is no invasive sticking or poking, no wrestling or maneuvering body parts, no messy plastic sheaths or lubrication, and no yucky clean-up.  The best of all:  no baby or child in distress.

3. Accuracy - this thermometer has been clinically tested for accuracy compared with rectal and heart sensor thermometers and has been approved for use in major hospitals.  Provided it is used correctly, it is one of the most accurate means of measuring body temperature and is relied on by many doctors and hospitals.

A note from the Examiner:  I have used my TemporalScanner for five years countless times with both of my children, and I have yet to be disappointed with the results.  I also have yet to change the batteries.  When people ask me what items I could not have lived without as a mom, the Exergen TemporalScanner Thermometer is at the top of my list.

The TemporalScanner Thermometer may be purchased at these retailers.  Learn more about Exergen's TemporalScanner and other products at Exergen.com.
