No one has ever doubted the creative genius that Capcom has in most of, if not all their signature games over the years. There's been a plethora of diversity when it comes to character design whether it was shooters, fighters, platformers, and others. That can especially be illustrated when you look at the rosters of the many Street Fighter games. Not only did the various strikers have all sorts of personalities and fighting styles, but each individual character came from a different country of origin. So what happens when there's demand from one country to be represented with a fighter that not only light up the control sticks but enchants the people playing with them? The answer is the woman we are turning our attention to...a femme so dangerous and so vile, you can't help but be caught up in her web of pain. She's hard to contain and always brings the pain, so welcome the first true Street Fighter villainess, Juri.
As alluded earlier, Juri came to life in Super Street Fighter 4 when Capcom fans in Korea were pining for a fighter to hail from their part of the world, since Namco and SNK had done so already like with Seong Mina, for example. Their wish was granted with Juri, who was not only the first Korean character in Street Fighter but the first to utilize the fighting style of Taekwondo, the combat practice that involves heavy kicking from a mobile stance. But there's more to Juri than just her fancy moves, as she shares a similar backstory to Chun-Li in which her parents were killed by Shadaloo run by M.Bison. But unlike Chun-Li, Juri sought revenge and actually joined the Shadaloo Indimidation Network run by Seth, having her left eye being turned into a machine called the "Feng Shui Engine," granting her inhuman speed and strength during battle. This is also what has become the signature glow in her eye when she delivers her devastating kicks.
When it was time for Juri to emerge when Seth runs a World Warrior Tournament of his own, Juri made no bones about hurting her opponents and enjoying every second of it. She models herself like a black widow spider being very sultry but a killer in the end, having a black spider planted on her backside. Along the way, she becomes one of the many rivals Chun-Li has, making fun of her and even implying a "schoolgirl crush" towards her. She also has a feud with Cammy, as Juri once tried to destroy her friends in "The Dolls" that Bison had under control. But Juri's true hatred is towards Bison himself since his organization killed her parents, whom she has intense battles with should she encounter him.
What has become a common pattern with Juri is her tendency to betray anyone she becomes "partners" with. If Juri wins the World Warrior Tournament and defeats Seth, she reveals that she wanted to take over S.I.N. all along while he and Bison have each other destroyed. In the end, she ultimately kills Seth and whatever happens from there is a mystery. Juri's deceptive ways are also shown in the crossover game Street Fighter X Tekken when she ironically teams up with M.Bison in an effort to gain control over the Pandora Box. By the time the two defeat Ogre and claim the box for themselves, they start clashing against one another with no known outcome. There was also the betrayal she causes with her team during her appearance in Project X Zone for the Nintendo 3DS. It's clear that while Juri has got great looks, she is definitely not one to be trusted by anyone.
There's yet to be more development for what comes next for Juri, although pretty soon she will have more opponents to face when Street Fighter 4 receives the new Ultra Street Fighter 4 update that sees the return of four familiar faces and the debut of a new one. But other than that, where Juri goes from here is as of now, an unknown fate. But still, it goes to show that enough demand can go a far way with Juri making waves among all Street Fighter and video game fans alike. Whatever comes next whether it's the turnaround Tekken X Street Fighter game or the next chapter for Street Fighter should see Juri come back to kick her poor opponents around some more for all to enjoy. When the time is right, Juri could potentially be the video game babe that you hate to love, but can't help live in sin for.
