Brentwood Academy tight end/defensive end Derek Barnett has committed to University of Tennessee according to his Twitter account.
"I have committed to the University of Tennessee !! Thank you God for this opportunity," Barnett said on his Twitter account.
Barnett is the 26th commitment for the Volunteers in the Class of 2014 and the sixth in state commitment joining Independence defensive back Vic Wharton, Independence free safety Rashaan Gaulden, Marshall County kicker Aaron Medley, Beech running back Jalen Hurd and Knoxville Webb defensive back Todd Kelly Jr.
Barnett (6-4, 270) chose the Vols over Vanderbilt, LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Missouri, Texas A&M, South Carolina and Ohio State among others.
Barnett was rated as the state's fourth best player in the class of 2014 by 247sports.com.
On the season, Barnett who is the reigning Division II-AA Mr. Football Linemen winner has 22 tackles, six tackles for loss and two sacks on defense.
He has also caught five passes from his tight end position for 98 yards and one touchdown for the Eagles.
