Ayurveda Fall Practice

Ayurveda specifies practices for each season because the seasons affect the doshas. Since this happens, Ayurveda has guidelines to balance the doshas for each season. Since we are in fall, the following guidelines are helpful for keeping doshas in balance during this time.

Fall Ayurveda Foods

Sugar cane, Jujubs, Brinjals, the leaves of Palakh, raw turmeric and wheat. (Kapha dosha, avoid wheat and reduce sweet). Favor: Sweet, pungent and astringent taste. This includes: Medicated Ghee, Navar Rice, Green gram, Amalaki, Resins, Mulethi, Shatavar, Pitta Churna and Pitta tea.

Fatty and sweet foods are recommended in order to compensate for loss of energy due to cold (inner organs dry up). A tablespoon of Flax oil each morning helps.
