What do Lauren Spierer, Jenni-Lyn Watson, Stacey Nicole English, Jorelys Rivera, Sherry Arnold and Ayla Reynolds all have in common? They’ve all been reported as missing, with only Jenni-Lyn Watson, Stacey Nicole English and Jorelys Rivera’s bodies having been found as of Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012.
That leaves Lauren Spierer, Sherry Arnold and Ayla Reynolds still missing, with their families still in limbo about their missing loved ones, as evidenced by the NBC New York report on Spierer's case on Friday, Jan. 27.
Two of the missing six females--Stacey Nicole English, 36, and Jorelys Rivera, aged 7--lived in Georgia. And both their bodies, fortunately, were recovered during relatively short investigative periods: less than a month in one case (English) and less than a week in the other (Rivera).
Police searched for English from Dec. 31, when it was reported she was missing by her parents, until they recovered her body on Jan. 23. Her body was wedged beneath a fallen tree, but an autopsy showed she did not die from blunt force trauma. (Article continues below)
Georgia law enforcement searched for the child Jorelys Rivera for even less time, beginning the day she disappeared at 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2 and recovering her beaten, raped body from the trash dumpster at her Canton apartment complex less than a week later.
Her killer, Ryan Brunn, committed suicide after confessing to the crime and getting a life imprisonment sentence this month. Stacey English's death has not been officially ruled a homicide to date and no suspect has been named in her disappearance.
Ayla Reynolds, Sherry Arnold and Lauren Spierer
Spierer, Arnold and Reynolds remain missing persons, however, with law enforcement continuing to investigate their disappearances. Their families remain stoic as they await news in each case and their loved ones whereabouts.
On Jan. 29, the Maine State Police spokesman Steve McCausland said that blood was found in the home of Ayla’s father Justin DiPietro soon after he reported his daughter’s disappearance on Dec. 17. And that DiPietro, along with two other individuals, were not being completely forthcoming with investigators, according to NewsCenter 5.
On Jan. 27, eight months after her disappearance, Lauren Spierer’s friends and family participated in a fundraising effort in order to raise money to help defray costs for the family’s continued private investigation into the missing Indiana University student.
So far neither the Bloomington Police, nor the private investigation into her disappearance, however, has produced any leads to her whereabouts or the arrest of any suspect.
Body found in search area for Arnold
On Jan. 26, nearing the one-month mark in the disappearance of Sherry Arnold, KFBB reported that a body was found within the search zone for the missing Montana teacher. However, it turned out to be that of a Florida man who was working in the area.
Oddly enough, his alleged murderer also turned out to be a Floridian, just like one of the suspects arrested in the Arnold disappearance.
Help from Jenni-Lyn Watson case
While two of the six cases (both in GA) were successfully investigated by law enforcement and led to the discovery of that state's missing female bodies, the case of Jenni-Lyn Watson, which occurred in Onondaga County, was essentially helped by friends of the suspect, who also knew the victim.
The Lauren Spierer case could benefit from Lauren’s friends (or the friends of the young males who saw her last) doing what Alan Jones, Bryan Holleran and Jeff Mancuso did in the Jenni-Lyn Watson case: working undercover to aid investigators get what they need to find the victim’s body and bring the family closure.
Arnold case needs Jenni-Lyn Watson help?
Likewise, if suspects in the Sherry Arnold case continue to remain mum about where her body is, as Steven Pieper did in Jenni-Lyn Watson’s disappearance--and police continue to be unable to locate it--it’s time to think about a profile on the two men in custody.
Arnold's suspects have friends too...somewhere. And those friends, family and associates would be the ideal links to gain the confidence of the defendants and assist investigators.
Even the Stacey Nicole English case in Georgia could benefit from friends of Ms. English's seeking to keep their ears open when among her other friends and associates during this time, as the Jenni-Lyn Watson suspect's friends did.
