Bruno Waterfield of The Telegraph posted a report on Nov. 26 detailing the story of a Belgian man discovering his Indonesian wife of 19 years had been born a man:

"The man, only named as Jan, married Monica, his family's former au pair in a previous marriage, in 1993 despite legal difficulties raised by the Belgian immigration authorities...But it was only in recent weeks that he discovered that his wife had originally been a man and had undergone a sex change."

Jan, 64, and Monica, 48, had never conceived children due to the fact that Jan already had two children from a previous marriage. During their marriage, Monica was thought of as a sort of "big sister" to Jan's children, but murmurs of deception arose after Monica was seen at nightclubs scantily clad and later caught receiving "amorous messages" from other men.

"A friend told me that he had heard that Monica was actually a sex-changed man. I could not believe it. My son heard similar rumors," Jan said.

A confrontation between Jan and his wife led to Monica's confession and subsequent melee. Police were called to the scene.

Jan is currently undergoing psychiatric therapy and attempting to have his marriage annulled.
