AWF announces application openings for 2013 Legacy Scholarships

The U.S. Army Women's Foundation (AWF) announced today, Jan. 8 that the AWF will begin to take applications for their 2013 Legacy Scholarships. Funds are available to Army women and their families who are working towards earning certifications or undergraduate degrees.

In 2012, seven women were awarded Legacy Scholarships with awards ranging from $1,000 - $2,500. The winners ranged from active duty to retired soldiers; some were single mothers, and at least one was a wounded warrior. Scholarships are awarded based on merit, academic potential, community service and need. Army women and family members attending a 2-year community college or 4-year institution are eligible.

Applications will be accepted from Jan. 8 through Feb. 1 and must be post-marked by February 1st, 2013. Scholarship recipients will be announced at the AWF Annual Symposium and Hall of Fame Luncheon on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. on March 12.

This annual event will also recognize Army women who have paved the way for others, including women who served in the Korean War, on the conflict's 60th anniversary and a symposium that explores issues facing Army women as they transition into civilian careers, family or further military service. AWF 2013 Legacy Scholarship application are available online at the AWF website.
