Holy. Crap. March can't come around soon enough.
As you know, this past weekend Comic-Con had its way with San Diego, and all the people that attended were given first glimpses at projects that movie and comic geeks everywhere are dying to get a look at. One such project was Sucker Punch, the next big-ass action movie (not counting the one about the owls that fight each other) from Watchmen director Zack Snyder. Watchmen, by the way, rocked, and anyone that wasn't onboard is cordially invited to suck it. By all accounts, the trailer they showed for Sucker Punch was one of the best of the Con, and we've been waiting to get our own look at it ever since it was announced. Thankfully, Snyder didn't wait too long: the trailer's online, and we've got it embedded for you below. Try not to leave your jaws on the floor on your way out, my gentle Examiner readers...
After the photos of Sucker Punch-related stuff showed up from Comic-Con, we were effing jazzed for the film here at Comedy Examiner HQ. "Just wait until you see the trailer", we were told. And now, just two days later, Zack Snyder has released the first trailer for Sucker Punch online. The film looks absolutely incredible, and the fact that they're offering it (read: forcing it on you) in 3D makes it even better. See how much stuff you can pick out from the trailer below, my precious snowflakes:
Well, if you're like me, you watched that trailer about five times before you moved on to this paragraph-- amIright? That looks incredible. Here's a thorough run-down of the plot, just in case you're having trouble with figuring out what the hell you just saw (which is understandable):
“Set in the 1950s, it tells the story of Baby Doll (Browning), who is trying to hide from the pain caused by her evil stepfather and lobotomy. She ends up in mental institution in Brattleboro, Vermont and while there she starts to imagine alternative reality. She plans to escape from that imaginary world but to do that she needs to steal five objects before she is caught by a vile man. She has 5 days to escape before being lobotomized. In order to cope with the situation, she enters the hyper-real world of her imagination, and the lines between reality and dream begin to blur. She is joined with friends who are inmates from the institution. Lessons learned in the said fantasy world could help the girls escape their real-world fate.”
If you're not excited to see this thing in action, you and I are no longer pals. Sucker Punch just jumped to the top of our "Most Excited to See" list of 2011. Thank God it's showing up before the Mayan apocalypse.

Oh, what the hell, let's post two screencaps from that: such is its awesomeness. Above, that's Baby Doll fighting...well, I'm not sure what that is. Below, we've got a show from one of the musical numbers we've heard pop up throughout the film (one critic compared it to Chicago, with much more bullets and sword fights):

Oh, another one? How 'bout this shot of an alien landscape? That doing anything for ya?

OK, one more, but I swear we're going to have to stop there. Let's see...what looked especially cool...

No, no, not that one (although that is looking damn cool). The one with the robot:

Yeah, that's the one. Stay tuned for more funny videos, news, reviews, interviews, and other nonsense from the Comedy Examiner's Office in the near future, my friends. Here's what we've been up to lately:
AMAZING PHOTO: "THE AVENGERS" ASSEMBLE FOR THE FIRST TIME ON THE 2010 COMIC-CON STAGE, AND IT'S AWESOME-- in which Marvel Studios gets everyone in The Avengers onstage at the same time for the first time. Even if you're not a comic book geek, it's a pretty cool sight. Check it out here.
WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: WELL, IT'S OFFICIAL-- "INCEPTION" HAS DOMINATED AT THE BOX OFFICE FOR TWO STRAIGHT WEEKS-- in which the inevitable occurs and Chris Nolan's latest keeps Angelina Jolie's latest in second place. In other news, The Sorcerer's Apprentice looks ready to join Jonah Hex in the "Hell, No, I Won't Be Seeing That Movie" club.
LINDSAY LOHAN HAS A "HYSTERICAL FIT" AFTER INMATES CHANT "FIRE CROTCH" AT HER IN JAIL-- in which Lindsay Lohan doesn't seem to be making any friends while behind bars. Also in which Lohan's notorious nickname rears its ugly head for the first time in years (OK, probably not years, but you get the idea).
BREAKING NEWS: IS DWIGHT SCHRUTE GOING TO BATTLE THE BATMAN IN "THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS"? THAT'S THE RUMOR-- in which we examiner the rumor that Rainn Wilson, best known as Dwight on NBC's The Office, will be playing The Riddler in the next Batman movie. Oh, and we also supposedly know who else is in the film, what it's called, and who the other villain is. Take it with all the salt you can find, people.
