When a music festival is what you need for the night's entertainment, Las Vegas would not seem like the place to go, but it is. Though it has no shortage of exciting entertainment, sometimes locals and visitors just want to sit down and hear some real music from a budding artist.
Indie Music Festival
Fans of local and independent music in Las Vegas wait all year long for the Indie Music Fest, a two-day indie music event put on by Black Mountain Productions and Urban Culture magazine. The festival features over 40 independent musical acts from all over the country, including several types of hip op, rock and pop music.
The festival is usually in the Spring season, and runs from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on April 27 and 28 in 2012. In addition to indie music, it also includes a 5k run that benefits Habitat for Humanity, as well as a number of other indie-related events to fill out the festival.
Pre-sale tickets to the Indie Music Fest are $10 a day or $15 for both days, and are available here. The event will be held at the Henderson Pavilion in the Green Valley area of Las Vegas.
The Las Vegas Elvis Fest
Though it is about as far from indie music as one can typically get, Elvis is both a pop favorite and a cult hit among hardcore Elvis fans. This event features a contest of various top Elvis tribute artists (known among scenesters as ETAs) as well as a number of Elvis-related celebrities.
In 2011, the Las Vegas Elvis Fest was at the Hilton in late July, but 2012 dates for this music festival have yet to be announced.
Music festivals are a popular place to skip the razzle dazzle of the usual Vegas show in favor of an intimate experience with some lesser-known musical artists.
