Gift cards, gift certificates, Egift cards and coupon booklets are popular items for gift giving. I have found that children love it when parents or grandparents offer a coupon booklet as a gift. In fact, many adults also enjoy coupon book gifts.
Create a fun and interactive gift of a coupon booklet. You will simply need:
- A package of stationary, printer paper or whatever you may have available. You may even use a printer paper with graphics. Such as the Christmas themed packs of paper available at your local Ann Arbor, Michigan Walgreens' location.
- An ink pen, marker, Sharpie or Computer with a keyboard and printer for those that choose to type and print out your coupons!
- A pair of scissors
- A stapler and staples. You may choose to use a hole punch and yarn to create your booklet.
- A sheet of cardstock or scrapbooking paper with designs. You may use these items to create an optional book cover!
To make your coupon book:
- Gather your craft items
- Write out or type a sheet of paper for your booklet. Include the item that the coupon is good for and the expiration date. In my booklets, I include an expiration date. For instance, if the coupons are a gift for Christmas. I would declare an expiration date of one year from today.
- Cut out your coupons.
- Attach the coupons sheets together. You may use a stapler or a hole punch and yarn. You may use any other means of connecting the coupons together as a book, as you desire.
- As an option, you may use cardstock or scrapbook paper to create a book cover.
- Make sure to include the receiver of the coupon books name on the the coupon book!
To use the Coupons:
- State an expiration date
- Allow the child to offer a coupon in exchange for the gift idea. For instance, the coupon may read:
- This coupon is good for Staying up 30 minutes past your bedtime!
Looking for coupon book ideas? Here are a few examples:
- Stay up late. 30 minutes or an hour. Depending on the child's age.
- One Free get out of a chore.
- A half an hour of computer or television time.
- An outing with mom or dad.
- Choose what is for dinner
- Skip a chore.
- Movie night.
- Buy a new book.
- Read an extra story at bed time.
- Go to a movie or to get ice cream or skating or bowling!
The options are endless. Consider the activities that your child may enjoy. Create a gift coupon for each activity. Choose five, ten or twenty coupons. I shared a coupon book with each of my family members the Christmas before last. The following Christmas, I did not give coupon books. Let me tell you, they were really looking forward to those coupon books. I think that your family will feel the same!
Happy Holidays!
