A trio of RedHawks were in the news Tuesday as they garnered some personal accolades on their teams' off-days. Hockey forward Carter Camper was named the RBC Financial CCHA Player of the Month, while soccer soccer defenders Brooke Livingston and Courtney Clarke were selected to the CoSIDA/ESPN Women's Soccer Academic All-District teams.
As the first month of the college hockey season came to a close, Camper found himself atop the national leaderboards in goals, assists and points. He holds the singular lead for goals (9) and points (22) while sitting in a tie for most assists (13). He is the first 'Hawk to win the distinction since December 2008, when he first won the award the award as a sophomore. He has scored a point in each game so far this year for the 'Hawks (5-1-2, 3-0-1-1). His high-scoring start to the season has increased his career points total to 148, which is tied for eighth most in program history.
While Livingston and Clarke are undoubtedly focused on the soccer team's second-round MAC tournament matchup against Central Michigan on Friday, they got to sit back and enjoy some pats on the back for their performances on and off the field. Livingston was named to the Second Team Academic All-District IV squad, while Clarke was named to the Third Team for the second consecutive year. Livingston has scored three goals this season and started all 21 games for the 'Hawks (13-6-2, 5-4-2) on defense. An excercise science major, she has a 3.71 GPA. Clarke is a mechnical engineering major, with a minor in electrical engineering, carrying a 3.66 GPA. She has two goals and three assists so far this season.
The women's soccer team will resume the second round of the MAC Tournament Friday at 11 a.m. against Central Michigan. The hockey team kicks off the second month of play the same day with a road series against Ferris State (4-3-1, 1-2-1-1).
