He was chosen to be featured as part of the Fashion's Night Out: Midwest series for his colorful photos that inspire the designer or artist within any field of artistry. The following is an exclusive interview with Nick, with a fashion-themed slideshow included:
How long have you been a photographer?
Around age 8 my parents gave me my first camera (and that was 25 years ago!). In 1997 I bought my first SLR camera, which took my photography on leaps and bounds. My photo-taking dramatically increased in 2001 when I purchased my first digital camera. In [the] past 4 years I have been pursuing photography more seriously as a hobby/second job as people have begun approaching me to do jobs and I’ve begun to sell my photos through www.canvas101.co.uk/nick-reynolds-photography-c-122.html
What is your favorite subject to photograph?
As a child & teenager I particularly enjoyed photographing nature and landscapes, capturing images and memories of places I visited and things I did. I still love exploring the great outdoors, so travel/nature/landscape & cityscape photography would be my favourite subjects. In recent years I’ve begun doing more people photography (weddings, babies, fashion) and this also has been rewarding and enjoyable.
You have a unique point of view that has won you several contests. How do you do it?
I like to use my artistic eye to capture scenes from a more unusual angle, which can make a rather plain subject far more interesting. Lighting, focus and composition are all incredibly important to make a good photo and I believe my years of studying art and design at school/college & university have influenced my photography.
You seem to capture scenes that makes one want to be in that place. If a tourist were visiting England, what area would you suggest they visit in order to experience the most beautiful place?
London is my home city, and I would highly recommend walking along the River Thames from Westminster to Tower Bridge – as they’d get to see most of the famous sights like Big Ben, the Millennium Wheel and St Paul’s Cathedral..(to name just a few).
If the countryside is more their thing, I can heartily recommend: the Lake District, Dorset countryside & coast, Pembrokeshire coastline, Snowdonian mountains and the Yorkshire Dales.
What are your top 3 passions?
1. Knowing Jesus Christ more & discovering the plans He has for me.
2. Meeting people and building these friendships
3. Photography and graphic design
If a reader in the Midwest (or anywhere else) were to be in the London area and wanted to meet you, could they?
