In the documentary film, Awaken, Author and Futurist, Barbara Marx Hubbard says it succinctly. The prophecy of 2012 does not mean the end of the world. Quite the contrary; it earmarks "the beginning."
The premise of this independently produced film is to address a Mayan prophecy suggesting the end of an epoch in December 2012. Many have interpreted this closure of an era as an Armageddon-like end of the world.
Argentinean born Filmmaker and Producer, Danisa Perry, has a different opinion, as do the five individuals featured in the 84-minute long presentation. The most well known is Ms. Hubbard, but also includes Tibetan Lama Tulku Tsori Rinpoche, Toltec Master Teacher Rita Rivera Fox, Master Shaman Bonnie Serratore, and William Linville.
"It's not just about, talking about awakening, it's about giving the viewer an "experience" of awakening while viewing the film." says Perry. "The gist of the message is about 2012; the reason why there are all these catastrophes and chaos happening: economic, housing, (the) oil spill, the earthquake, tsunamis, is (to) kick up the ego, kick up the fear, in order for us to get beyond the fear, beyond the ego, beyond the separation and into love and oneness."
Interspersed with exquisite aerial photography, each teacher expresses their unique wisdom while filmed in close-up against a bright, white background. So close in fact, one could count the wrinkles on their faces. No vanity present here. It is a powerful and intense download of information. Perry explains, "During the film itself, while you're watching the film, the ego gets pushed so that you're able to have a cathartic experience . . . and to move beyond the separation, judgment, or anything else you might be experiencing because it is so intimate and up close."
In fact, there is so much information disseminated that one finds oneself entering into an altered state. The brain simply cannot take it all in. Perhaps that is the point, to bypass the brain and reach some part of our consciousness that innately understands the macrocosm of the universe. "By the end of the film," states Perry, "if you allow yourself to stay open, it actually pushes you to that place of oneness, not as a concept of oneness, but an actual heartfelt experience of oneness."
Awaken, produced by Guru Rendezvous Films, Inc., is the first in a series of documentary films whose primary focus is to transform mass consciousness. The company’s website provides individuals with an option to host screenings, as well as links to the teachers featured in the film.
