Avril Lavigne is just one of many celebrities to confuse her easily imitated style with actual fashion skill. Her 'Abbey Dawn' line, which will be available at Kohl's, is pretty much Hot Topic prom wear. Her show at Fashion Week was full of poor-man's Betsey Johnson ripoffs: tutus, ripped leggings, skulls and crossbones. Lip Service does it better, sorry. Or Jeannie Nitro.
Suspenders, boots and the continual commodification of 'punk rock as fashion' ruled the show. This is great stuff if you're twelve and a complete poser. Remember when punks and kids who were individuals had to wade through thrift store bins or venture to downtown L.A, buy yards of fabric, and create their own unique look? And now being an 'outcast' or a 'rebel' is easily achieved with a quick trip to a chain store in a mall.
