Avril Lavigne addition on new BSB tour dates described as 'dubious' by Billboard

Avril Lavigne has added juice to the Backstreet Boys' newly expanded tour of U.S. and Canada, but her billing as "very special guest" rather than as a co-headliner has been called into question by industry trade magazine Billboard.

According to a news release posted March 14 at Billboard.com, the Canadian punk pop princess' new self-titled album has sold over 125,000 copies since November while BSB's latest release "In A World Like This" has moved only 110,000 copies since July.

Though both artists' albums charted equally well on the Billboard 200, hitting the top 5, BSB's album sales have remained sluggish despite mounting an extensive support tour, which began last Aug. with special guests which have included: Jesse McCartney, DJ Pauly D and B5, raising eyebrows about why Lavigne has not been billed as a co-headliner.

The tour kicks off May 3 in Moncton, MB at Moncton Coliseum Arena and winds up June 22 in Wantagh, N.Y. at Nikon at Jones Beach Theater.

Other Canadian stops include:
May 4 Halifax, NS Halifax Metro Centre
May 6 Kingston, ON Rogers K-Rock Centre
May 7 London, ON Budweiser Gardens
May 8 Hamilton, WP FirstOntario Centre
May 11 Winnipeg, MB MTS Centre
May 13 Moosejaw, SK Mosaic Place
May 14 Lethbridge, AB ENMAX Centre
May 16 Calgary, AB Scotiabank Saddledome
May 17 Edmonton, AB Rexall Place
May 18 Dawson Creek, BC EnCana Events Centre
May 20 Vancouver, BC Rogers Arena

Tickets for the Canadian dates go on sale March 21 with various pre-sales available beginning March 17.
