Just days after human remains and clothing that may belong to missing New York boy, Avonte Oquendo were found near the East River, a lawyer said, “it’s not looking great” for the child’s family, according to a Jan. 18, 2014 report from the Lexington-Herald Leader.

Attorney David Perecman noted the discovered apparel seems to match what Avonte, 14, was wearing when he vanished.

“It’s a size five-and-a-half Nike Jordan sneakers and size 16 jeans which are both what Avonte was wearing on the day which he left are troubling things to hear,” Perecman said, according to CBS New York.

CBS reports that Avonte is autistic and is unable to talk.

Avonte reportedly left his school on Oct. 4, 2013, and was last seen on surveillance footage that same day walking toward a park on the East River.

His family has been informed of the recent developments in the case, however, Avonte’s mother, Vanessa Fontaine, is just considering the news another tip until DNA tests are undertaken, family attorney, Perecman told WABC.
