Weight gain is a big issue for many in Charlotte. For some weight loss issues will interrupt the enjoyment of Christmas as well as other holidays. Those who find it is easy to gain weight may want to consider a few tips to help them maintain their weight while enjoying the holidays.
To keep from gaining too much weight caused by eating too many holiday goodies, some may want to freeze portions of special food items for another day. Knowing the food has not left the planet, but is available for dinner next, week may help some.
Other tips that may help some avoid gaining too much weight during the holidays:
Eat what you really want. Some may eat half a bag of chocolate chip cookies when what they want is the chocolate. A few pieces of chocolate would make more sense calorie and fat wise than having a dozen or so cookies. Some will eat half of a bag of chips because they want something salty. Maybe all the person needs is a pinch of salt without the chips
Take a brisk walk before a holiday meal to avoid weight gain. For many, inactivity is the true culprit. Walking for as little as 20 minutes before a special meal may help some reduce their appetite.
Eat a small snack before heading to a holiday dinner away from home. Some find they overeat at a holiday meal because they have not eaten enough earlier in the day. Skipping meals never seems to be a good idea.
Give yourself permission to eat. Guilt causes some to eat more than they should. Everyone should be able to enjoy the food they are eating.
Have one bite of everything you like. For some, avoiding one tempting menu item may cause them to eat more of something else. Eating a bite of each item may allow a person to feel satisfied.
Instead of excess sweets, head for your favorite vegetables and salads. While these can also add to the waistline, usually vegetables are not the cause of weight gain.
Agree to an amount of weight gain that is acceptable for you during the holidays. This could help some gain just a few pounds instead of an amount that will take a year to lose.
