Avoid emailing New Paltz Town Justices

Despite the fact that both of the New Paltz Town Justices (James Bacon and Jonathan Katz) have email addresses published on the Town of New Paltz website, emailing the court is not an effective way to reach any member of the staff.

The New Paltz Examiner contacted the court offices and began a question with, "I sent an email . . ." which was met with a reply of, "Oh, really?" by the court employee who answered the phone.  "It doesn't come up that often, but we don't have access to the email," she said.

Both of the justice's email addresses are easily available online, including on the court's page of the New Paltz town website, and  in such places as the newly-launched New Paltz Political Forum.  When asked if the email addresses should be removed from the website, the employee advised that the court staff does not have access to change the site.

According to Guy Visk, confidential secretary to the Town Supervisor, he is responsible for making updates to the court's section of the town website, but no request to update or eliminate email addresses has been made recently.  Presumably the page was updated most recently with Justice Bacon's email address when he was elected in 2007.
