Avocado is a tremendously healthy food

There has been an increasing public awareness about the vital importance of adhering to a healthy diet for good overall health. Many people in Syracuse have been growing deeply concerned about rising rates of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and emotional problems associated with poor dietary habits which is promoted by eating too much junk food. Good news is that picking up some avocados at the local supermarket can help you win the war against poor health associated with unhealthy dietary patterns.

Dr Richard Foxx has reported for The Doctors Health Press "Why Avocado Is a Super Food." Dr Foxx describes avocados as a "wonderful healing food to eat" which aside from other health benefits are "potentially tough enough to take on cancer." In one clinical trial Dr Foxx reports that the phytochemicals extracted from the avocado fruit were able to selectively put a halt to the cancer cell cycle by stopping growth and triggering death in precancerous and cancer cell lines.

Avocado also helps to fortify the number of lymphocyte cells, which are those small white blood cells that play a big role in defending your body against disease. And researchers have shown that this fruit was able to lower the chromosomal aberrations which are induced by a common chemotherapy treatment called “cyclophosphamide.” The research team has suggested that phytochemicals from the avocado fruit could be used to make an active chemoprotective ingredient for lowering the side effects of chemotherapies like cyclophosphamide that are used in cancer therapy.

Also, researchers at the Ohio State University have found that avocados can increase the amount of carotenoids you absorb from other foods that you eat. The research team found that the addition of avocado to salsa increased lycopene and beta-carotene absorption resulting in more than double the intake. And in another study it has been shown that supplementing 150 grams of avocado or 24 g of avocado oil to salad similarly enhanced alpha-carotene, beta-carotene, and lutein absorption an average of seven times that of avocado-free salad. Since the avocado is a delicious fruit adding or increasing consumption of avocado in your diet should be both a delicious and healthy pursuit.
