While the weather here in Los Angeles for Siberian Husky owners has been fluctuating from sunny and warm to cold and rainy, Great Britain has perfect weather to be holding their 30th Anniversary Aviemore Sled Dog Rally, which will be taking place this weekend on Jan. 26-27. Mushers and their dogs were out in droves today on Jan. 23 practicing for the annual event.
Every year since 1984, mushers from across the UK have gathered in the forests around Aviemore for the biggest event in the British sled dog racing calendar, The Siberian Husky Club of Great Britain Aviemore Sled Dog Rally. In 2013 we celebrate our 30th Anniversary of the race on 26 and 27 January 2013.
Held by the Siberian Husky Club of Great Britain and sponsored by dog food manufacturer Arden Grange, in conjunction with Forestry Commission Scotland, the Aviemore Sled Dog Rally 2013 will be taking place in the mountain trails of Loch Morlich in Scotland.
The races will see mushers running sled teams of 2-8 dogs on a 4-7 mile trail. Should snow fail to make an appearance at this year's rally (not likely, since it's there right now!) mushers will abandon sleds and use three-wheeled rigs for some "urban mushing" style racing instead. In other words, there'll be no stopping this event and the multiple Siberian Huskies and their owners that will be in attendance.
