Avatar to surpass Titanic at the box office tomorrow (video)

Since the previews of director James Cameron’s Avatar started playing and cinema-goers began channeling their inner movie critics, it has been widely speculated as to whether or not it would beat out its colossal blockbuster of a sibling, Titanic at the box office. Cameron released Titanic on the big screen in 1997-1998 and it received massive praise to the tune of $1.843 billion at the worldwide box office. Avatar, now at an estimated $1.841 billion in the worldwide box office, is tailing Titanic as closely as a Na’vi’s braid to its owner.

If all goes as expected, this time tomorrow, Avatar should take its place on its rightful throne among industry megahits. "Audiences still are going in record numbers around the world to experience this remarkable film," said Chris Aronson, Fox senior VP of domestic distribution.

Avatar is also riding Titanic’s wake in another record; It became the first film since Titanic to top domestic rankings for six consecutive weekends.

Avatar has already surpassed one of Titanic’s records thus far, beating it in foreign tally. Titanic totaled $1.24 billion and Avatar has already reached $1.29 billion in foreign sales. A factor worth considering, however, is Avatar’s 3D ticket upcharges. According to the Hollywood Reporter, “The pic's 3D venues have contributed 80% of its domestic box office to date and internationally 65%. Imax 3D venues alone have contributed $134 million in global Avatar box office.”

Great AVATAR leads again, its a masterpiece! unlike this classless and disturbing movie LEGION, or this boring violent movie ELI. Filmmakers please note that gory violence or a black cast will never make a huge box office.
