Variety is reporting today some interesting news with regards to the finances backing the upcoming “Avatar” films.
Apparently 20th Century Fox has acquired a little more than $400 million to fund “Avatar 1” and “Avatar 2” along with some smaller projects.
Considering how much it cost to make the first film, about $280 million before marketing costs, at first I questioned whether or not this would be enough, but then I realized that the costs in the first film were primarily incurred creating a whole new technology (and industry for that matter), and now those expenses are out of the way.
This should help pave the way for more news regarding the first sequels release date (currently set for fall of 2015), and plot/character details.
Considering the special effects involved I would guess they would need to start pre-production sometime by the end of the year/beginning of next year.
