Avatar, a different kind of hero

Hi New York Doll Collectors,

Are you familiar with the movie Avatar, by James Cameron? I didn't see this film in the theater, but I was lucky enough to watch it on my iPod, when the film was available in digital format. If you haven't seen it, it is a must see. The plot, the action, the technology is marvelous, but the costuming, is out of this world.

How appropriate to say the costuming is out of this world. For the home of the Avatars is located on Pandora, a forrest like moon. The color of the Avatars, are a moonlight blue, with subtle streaks of a lighter blue, almost of a turquoise shade. Their clothing are made from the gifts of nature and of the forrest where they live; twines and precious rock and gems for jewelry, and cloth or animal skins for clothing. Such beautiful creatures to behold. I speak of these characters, because the Tonner Doll Company has chosen to put the Avatars, into a doll form. They have been released for the serious doll collector and action figure collector.

The two characters that the Tonner Company, chose to recreate into dolls, are Neytiri and Jake. The two replications have a good likeness and appeal as in comparison to the characters in the film. Jake, the male character, has a strong likeness to the Avatar actor in the film, particularly around the eyes and nose. For Neytiri, the sharp facial structure is captured beautifully in the Tonner doll. Both clothing, hair and adornments, worn by both movie characters, are included on the Tonner’s doll re-creation. It is subtle, but definitely a good representation of the style of Cameron’s Avatar characters. http://youtu.be/1EnL7vUmvQ4

I will have to reiterate, that these dolls are for the serious doll and action collector. Though anyone could enjoy them, the price of these dolls are very competitive. Each figurine goes for the price of $799.00. For both, together as a pair, the price is $1,500. Pretty amazing right? Some kind of heros, these characters are. Who wouldn’t want these power dolls on the shelves of their homes! I know I would mind!

Visit the Tonner Doll Company on their website. We included Tonner’s youtube video, which talks about the making of these dolls. Also check out our gallery for a closer look at these beauties. Tonner Doll Company is located in Kingston, New York.
