Forward Michael Schumacher was reassigned to the Lake Erie Monsters training camp. Meanwhile forward Troy Bourke, defenseman Mason Geertsen and goaltender Spencer Martin were sent back to their junior teams.
Schumacher was in Avalanche camp despite being on an AHL contract. The 20-year-old Swedish forward was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the seventh round of the 2011 draft; but the team declined to sign him by the deadline this summer. He had 50 points in 65 games for the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds last season.
Bourke was a third round pick by the Avs in the 2012 draft. The diminutive forward (156 pounds) suited up in Colorado’s first preseason contest against the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday , registering one shot in 6:50 of ice time. He was returned to the Prince George Cougars of the WHL, where he had 50 points in 63 games last season.
Geertsen also played in Wednesday’s contest, registering two hits and finishing plus-one for the night. The 6-3 defenseman was selected by the Avalanche in the fourth round of the 2013 draft. He was returned to the Vancouver Giants of the WHL.
Goaltender Spencer Martin suited up for Wednesday’s game, but did not see any action; serving as backup to Semyon Varlamov. Martin was the third-round selection of the Avalanche in 2013 and will return to the Mississauga Steelheads of the OHL.
