Avalanche lose their fourth straight, look to get back on track

The Colorado Avalanche have been struggling lately, losing four games in a row and six of their last seven.

The Avs may need Peter Forsberg to play sooner rather than later.  It is expected that Forsberg will make his season debut before the week is over.

Peter Mueller, who has been out with a bad concussion since preseason, has started skating on his own, but has not been cleared to participate in full practices with the Avalanche squad yet.

The Avalanche, who earlier this year were among the league leaders in goals scored, have been shut out in back to back games and have three games remaining on their four game road trip before returning back to Denver.  It is vital that the team starts to put some wins together and get back in the playoff picture in the NHL’s Western Conference.

As of today, the Avalanche have 56 points in 52 games, and four points behind the Los Angeles Kings, who currently hold the eighth seed in the Western Conference.  14 of the 15 teams in the Western Conference are either in the playoff picture, or could be in the playoffs when April comes around, with the exception of the Edmonton Oilers, who will not make the playoffs unless they can pull off a miracle.
